Did the sprint button change PvP?

Prior to the 1.7 sprint key, PvP was a slightly more skill-based in my opinion. There was a wider gap between the "pros" and the inexperienced players.

Aside from the fact that a huge amount of people used BSM...
Being an exceptional sprinter was a legitimate way of excelling in PvP. It helped with your strafing, knockback, and all sorts of aspects of PvP.
The addition of the sprint key really lowered the bar of skill requirement. Double-tapping W was suddenly a less effective - and thus less desirable - option. Anyone who had become proficient with the old style of sprinting was suddenly being overtaken by new players simply because of the sprint key.

It was a situation in which you either had to adapt, or you would sink. Either learn to use the sprint key, or else risk being beaten by everyone else who used the sprint key.



Also, it had another effect. More hackers.
Why?
Here's why:
Many of the people who wanted to "hack" on MCSG didn't want to get banned. That's obvious. So what did they do? They searched for a hack or advantage that would be difficult to detect, but still effective. That brought them to Better Sprint Mod, which was possible the most common disallowed Mod used on MCSG prior to the implementation of the Anti-BSM system. It was also used by BajanCanadian, one of the largest MCSG YouTubers for quite some time. (Him and his buddy were the source of all of the Bacca skins.)

Once the 1.7 sprint key was implemented (as well as the anti-BSM system), they needed another advantage. BSM wasn't cutting it, as it was pretty much equal to the sprint key. And so, they searched for legitimate hack clients, a step above BSM.

While this may not have been directly aimed for hacking on MCSG, as we had the Anti-BSM system, there were other servers with which this concept would have applied, and so they carried their hacks over to MCSG eventually.

I remember when egrodo and xextract were gods at double tapping...

To be fair, the change hasn't been as bad as I thought; I remember when it came out I was close to quitting because I hated it so much. I like it now though, it takes away skill in some ways but it also adds something fun and fast-paced.

i was god at double tapping before i even knew about pvp...wanna know why? cherry mx reds..

I only began to get decent at PvP until after the sprint button came out. In a way it doesn't effect me, but at the same time I can agree with what is being said about it taking skill out of the game.

In my opinion, the sprint key only adds another key to enable sprint and does not change PVP. PVP has always been about getting an upper-hand, taking your opponent by surprise, getting critical hits and so forth. Yes, sprinting is a lot smoother, albeit it really doesn't change anything, except for the fact that sprinting is instantly available. It really doesn't change anything, heck, I usually double tap W to sprint.

That's the exact thing that it changes.
That's what made BSM so over-powered and bannable.
You're underestimating the power of instant sprinting capabilities.

Sprint button made it way to easy to run. Like..... TOO EASY MY GOD STOP RUNNING KID

And I was a double tapping god, I even got banned for better sprint! xD (I Disbuted it obviously, I didn't ever use better sprint)

I was just thinking of this and in my opinion I think the sprint button made it alot easier to get combos. What do you guys think? Please don't leave any hate filled comments because that just makes me sad ;-;

so this update ruined mcsg for me.....
it is impossible to determine who uses bsm now.... and I don't win anymore...
Im nto claiming to be the best pvper in mcsg history... but for a while i was ranked number 1...
Since the 1.7 update i have won very few games and have lost thousands....
