From the Node Permissions for the Clans and Teams section
There's a lot of surprising functions hidden away in Xenforo that people don't always realize, myself included. Today I realized, among other things, that Xenoforo actually allowed us to prevent certain threads from appearing in the New Posts section of the forums.

Why do I mention this? Because I'm not the only one who has noticed that Clan threads consistently make up of one third to one half of all traffic in the New Posts section. In fact, I've had people ask me if it was possible to prevent Clan threads from appearing there; before, I believed that to be impossible, but now I know it is quite possible.

This brings me to the question of the poll: should Clan threads be prevented from appearing in the New Posts section of the forums?

Do note the following:
  • Functionally, the Clans section will be identical to how they are now. Voting Yes will only remove Clan threads from appearing in the New Posts section.
  • Clan threads will still be sorted according to Latest post when you visit the Clans section, no matter which way the vote goes.
  • You will still be able to track clans you are interested or a part of with the Watch Thread function.
I get the impression that the general public does not want to see the New Posts feed bloated with clan threads of which they have no interest in. Voting Yes to remove Clan threads from appearing in the New Posts section would do as they have occasionally requested, making the New Posts feed appear much cleaner and geared towards public threads. However, since this does affect a fairly major part of the forums, I figured I would gather opinions from the forum-going public.

Poll ends in 7 days (April 28th).

No, clans are a huge part of MCGamer and is why most of us are still even here I think it deserves to stat in the recent threads and replies sections.

You don't even know how annoying that is... if this happens I will be one of the happiest guys around here and I think the forums community will start to make a bigger comeback because then they will see more interesting threads to reply to

I like the idea of removing the clans forum from the "New Posts." This would make for more interesting threads getting more attention. People don't usually look for clans via "new threads" anyway. They go in the "Clans and Teams" section anyway.

However, clans don't deserve to be ignored. I suggest we add a "New Clans" bar on the side of the screen under "Recent Thread Replies." This would help the clan community see what they wanted, while the rest of us would be able to see more relevant threads as well.

I completely agree that clans is big part of MCGamer, and does have an effect on the community. To some extent, people may have stayed with MCGamer due to clans. However, I really don't think we are going to have people leaving the community due to clan threads not appearing in recent threads. It's not like clan threads are disappearing completely, they just will be a tiny bit harder to find. If you are on the forums because of clans, maybe just bookmark the clans section, so everyone else doesn't have to constantly see them in recent threads.

I do think that it would be more beneficial to everyone else on the forum, if clan threads were not in the recent threads. Other people could get much more activity on their new threads, instead of getting dominated by all the clan threads. If people really get upset about that, maybe we could limit it to only 1 or 2 clan threads in recent thread list - Instead of it consistently being only clan threads.

I don't really use the recent threads/posts section, but when I do it's filled with clans and teams so I'd like to see something different. I know this is a thing that people have been pushing for for a while, so it's addition would be nice c:

90% chance that this poll tilts in the favor of no. People will freak out that this will cause a negative impacts on clans, because they didn't read the whole thread...
Sadly, I think this is true. People see "remove clan threads" and think, "OMG, MCGAMER IS TRYING TO KILL CLANS!"

Trust me: if we were dumb enough to want to ban the entire notion of clans, we wouldn't ask for permission before doing so.

However, clans don't deserve to be ignored. I suggest we add a "New Clans" bar on the side of the screen under "Recent Thread Replies." This would help the clan community see what they wanted, while the rest of us would be able to see more relevant threads as well.
Current information tells us that this is not currently possible without a hypothetical Xenforo addon. We do not have the ability to create a New Threads sections for a specific section of the forums, so we would not be able to do that. That is why I'm approaching the topic like this.
