Why are we adding new gametypes before fixing the old ones?

MCGamer wants to stretch out and get other players, which is really good once other players join and they settle with the gamemeodes it has then they will work on SG again, but for now the network is focusing on expanding its gates to UHC players and other minigames players, instead of just SG.

From the Developer Slack, ChadTheDJ and Ava wished for me to point out that subv3rsion fixed over 40 bugs in the last week alone across many gametypes.
In Chad's words, "[subv3rsion] has been going ham on the issue tracker"

More information should be presented in next week's Path Notes, which should be released on May 1st.

All things considered, the decision to develop UHC was done with the community's demands in mind. You'll find many more threads and posts asking for UHC than you do asking for SGC, QQ, or many of the other gamemodes to be fixed. Simply put, people seem more interested in getting something new than fixing what they have but aren't interested in.

And in terms of production scale, it makes more economic sense for us to focus development on UHC whilst Bill works on bugs. New gamemodes, even ones as straight forward as UHC, require more Dev work than bug fixes. So in terms of efficient use of time, it makes sense to devote 2 or 3 people to a project that requires 2-3x as much work, while keeping the maintenance project that might require only one person working simultaneously. And with summer coming up, it's important that we have something new and fun for everyone.

Will everything be finished as soon as we want it to be? No, because nothing is ever fast enough. But it's better to moderate your resources than to push everything into one project and experience diminishing returns of time and resources. So long as both are getting done, we should be happy.

MCSG has been running for over 3 years strong, and it's time we expand to other major gamemodes too to make our network more of a network instead of a gametype.

Are we focusing on the wrong things? I personally don't think so entirely, but some more effort could be put into the really simple bug fixes.
But are we expanding to please the right people? If many come for PvP, then most will want combat-based gametypes. Things like Deadly Descent or ColorZone would work for other places, but here, few would enjoy it. We need to fine-tune our games to please the brawlers, because they make up 99% of our community. UHC is a good start for that.

I couldn't agree more, we should focus on SG and UHC, but deadly descent is pretty fun once in a while ;)

You raise some good questions, some I'd personally like to know the answers to myself. There are maps that crash occasionally, but those have for the most part been fixed, at least I haven't crashed on Alaskan Village or Zone 85 any time recently.

As for QQ and SGC, the main reason they're being pushed to the back of the list is because there were more important things that were, believe it or not, asked for by the community. The only thing we won't be doing most likely are those solo and team servers, that defeats the purpose of our survival games.

The community wanted UHC, and so did many staff members so we put our minds together (actually, it was really just the admins/devs) and created it, because people wanted it.

You say we don't do SG best anymore, and I'd like to know who you think does it better. Badlion, perhaps? Well, if you're an ultra-competitive tough tryhard-like person then maybe Badlion would suit you better. For me, though, their SG seems to impersonal and I dislike some of their map selection. Expanding is going to be pretty difficult when these new mini-games have no player bases. So how long is MCGamer willing to wait for those mini-games to get any attention from players?

I agree that it needs to expand into a network.

That's what Hive has done: it has many games, and no one community/player type has dominated. But with MCSG being entirely PvP-oriented, it hasn't evolved to support them all. The new gamemodes didn't have enough of a kick/boost in playerbase, therefore they became underplayed. We need to make sure our focus continues to be PvP, and so our playerbase grows but stays true to itself.

Just to throw in my two cents, several bugs were definitely fixed over the past couple of weeks. I've put in at least 20 hours towards fixing up the new website, fixing MCSG, QQ, and smaller issues in other gametypes.
If you aren't already aware, you should be reporting bugs to the MCGamer Bug Tracker, powered by GitHub. You can find that here. Without the proper bug reports, and follow-up responses for further information (if needed -- just check your email!), I cannot fix what I don't know about. I personally don't actively (daily) play these games, because I enjoy fixing and creating things more than I do playing. Of course, I do test these fixes after applying them, as I know exactly what to look for once the fix has been applied, but I wouldn't know what to look for without end-user (your) input.

Over the past 4 days, bug fixing on my part has halted due to moving to another apartment and getting situated there. In fact, I'm sitting with about 10 overflowing cardboard boxes behind me, with wires all over the place. I'll probably resume bug fixing late tonight, or early tomorrow, provided that there are reported bugs for me to fix. Common, easier issues will obviously be fixed first because they're quicker to resolve. Issues that are a bit more involved will take time, but will be resolved.

On another note, over the past couple of weeks, I've spent 10 minutes here and there updating NoCheatPlus, and I'm still trying to comprehend how the NCP configuration works. This isn't the easiest thing to do when you're a bit preoccupied elsewhere :p

Again, we need your input posted on the bug tracker if you wish for us to resolve any and all bugs that you come across. You can do that here.

The devs are fixing the 1.8 NCP?

Can't wait until Huahwi stops saying "I'm not feeling these jump crits," "I should have gotten that hit," and "My hits never register!" Boy, that will be quite a day if a new version comes out.

Well since they added UHC, which has been highly suggested on the forums, probably because of pressure by the community

Watch his old vids then, he rarely will say it.

No one wants to play 1.8 UHC though lmao
