I'm 90% sure he'll come back at some point, although I also find it really perplexing how he doesn't bother updating people on twitter or by posting an update video.

I don't think he truly understands the responsibilities a YouTuber actually has. Once your channel reaches a certain size and you attain a certain amount of viewership, you can't just abandon it for long periods of time leaving the hundreds of thousands of people who regularly watch him wondering where he's went.
Then again, he seems to accumulate a decent amount of subscribers when he doesn't post videos so it may just be a strategy. Why would he need to actually upload when he gets subscribers anyway? Just look at this: http://socialblade.com/youtube/user/huahwi123
He's still making money, still getting views and subscribers without doing a thing with his channel.

(by the way, I don't actually watch his videos, I just find it dumb that he takes these spontaneous hiatuses)

That's quite assumptive and unrealistic. The growth of subscribers he'd gain from actively uploading on his channel is much higher than that of a gamble which has a high possibility of just leaving him with inactive subscribers. I've already explained in a different post on one of these threads that by leaving for another five months he'd be missing out on $21k.

So for anyone saying that he's doing it for the money or the subscribers, the only thing he'd end up with is less subscribers, and less money.
