So the middle is too safe. The game is too boring! There is no GM to release mutts on our players, so what can we do about it?
TRAPS!
The middle is a safe zone, yes, but it should be an active area that you have to be alert.
In the books they kept a look out and traps to keep their base protected because they had to find supplies and kills. It's not safe to be a sittnig duck. In minecraft it is.
I propose some traps, if you have any good spawn area trap ideas please add your input.
Set tnt at ground level, either spawn it second day, first night, or have it at the beginning. It should create a large unsafe area around the chests so that you actually have to leave the spawn and come back with enough time for someone else to reach a chest.
The button can etiher be in the middle, which creates a "OH Good RUN" scenario, good for a smart person in a party to do to get the upper hand on their teammates.
Or there could be a distant switch that a person can press that is hard to get to, thus making someone have to guard it or use it before anyone else can.
If they plan on using it before anyone else, the middle would have to be evacuated, thus giving someone time to do something.
Another trap is just lava. Somehow have lava pits open up, a lava moat, lavafalls, something just to make the middle not as safe. pistons to cycle the ground opening up would add a lot more danger to the final fight and just the middle in general.
Ring around the chests is a really boring final fight. Add lava or other traps would make the middle more dynamic all game.
Another trap could be arrow shooters from a distance. That'd be cool!
