MCSG has been running strong since April 2012, that's 27 whole months. That fact alone is astonishing, however that is not what I'm here to talk about with you guys today. Throughout those 27 months, we as a community have come up with many different PvP strategies and ideas of what makes or breaks a good player, and recently one thing has come up a lot. I see so many people complaining about ping, which is basically like the strength of one's connection to a server. The lower your ping, the better connection you get.

Here's my deal on ping. People can't control their ping, so the way they fight is NOT "abusive". I've seen a lot of threads, and just general people obsessing over ping. I've had multiple 1v1s with people where I simply got a pretty sweet combo to finish the fight and I get the standard "Dang dude, your ping!". And it seems like nowadays people aren't considered "good" anymore, they're only considered good if they get good ping (which is utterly not true in almost every case). So I'm here to say something. Yes, ping may be decently involved in PvP, and people who live very close to our network's host cities may get an unfair advantage, but PvP does not stand for Ping versus Ping, it stands for Player versus Player, and at the end of the day, it's the player, not the equipment (or in this case, the internet connection). I've been accused of "ping abuse" on coutless occasions, when I average around 90 ping to our US network. This proves that my skill, and that of many others, comes not from ping, but from how we play the game.

Therefore, why don't we all stop caring about ping, and work on the fundamentals of PvP to improve skill, and the next time someone gives you the deep dish combo mambo, recognize their skill and not their internet connection!

Thanks for hearing me out, have a good day :)

P.S: I'm not saying that ping counts for absolutely nothing, it does in certain, more severe situations. My main point through this is to say that we as a community should go back to appreciating people's PvP skill.

This is so true. As soon as anyone is decent with the sword, they are ping abusing. Really, all it is is an excuse from people who can't accept a loss.

One thing I've noticed is that the same people that call 'ping' when they lose are the people that say 'ez' and 'rekt' when they kill anyone. Such a coincidence...

True, I guess, but when I encounter a decently skilled player that also has amazing ping....well....almost impossible for me to win xD

But I guess we really can't complain, it's not their fault they have good internet. :3

It's just another excuse for people to use when they're having a losing streak.

"My ping is so bad today!"

It's just like when someone loses a basketball game and tries to blame it on their shoes not having grip, or the ball being too flat.

Ping is a factor in PVP, but a very small one. Like you said, it all comes down to the skill of the player. I know of people who practically live on the other side of the world, and still have a large amount of wins.

Go on the leaderboards and search up Ceroria. My ping is fine, I just literally have the absolute WORST luck on the planet and can't seem to get past the infinite deathmatch teams :c

I wasn't directing that at you- I'm sorry if you thought I was :p That part of the post was mostly just people's attitudes in general.

The second part is totally true :p Krafty himself, as well.

I couldn't agree more with this. If you know that someone has a good ping from your first encounter with that person, your skill should determine the outcome of that fight. This is why when I know a person has a good ping I adjust my PvP tactics for me to win. It's the MCSG community, I'm not surprised that people are making excuses.

I knew that wasn't directed toward me :p, I used myself as an example of someone who pulls inhuman losing streaks with nothing to blame it on other than the fact that I'm bad xD

In most games that involve extreme accuracy (like CS:GO), good ping is necessary to actually be able to play since you die in one hit usually. In Minecraft, however, you can survive and even thrive with 'bad' ping. Mainly because hit detection still picks up through lag (which applies for people with bad or good ping). You can survive many hits on most occasions, so having poor ping is okay and functional. Having good ping just makes it so your reactions are spot on. A leveled 'pingfield' (playfield) is really not achievable without communist internet. There are so many providers in different locations that it's basically impossible for all ping to be the same.

People just don't like losing, and slight differences like that are always chosen before the everlasting scapegoat of 'HACKER!!!1!!'
