MCSG has been running strong since April 2012, that's 27 whole months. That fact alone is astonishing, however that is not what I'm here to talk about with you guys today. Throughout those 27 months, we as a community have come up with many different PvP strategies and ideas of what makes or breaks a good player, and recently one thing has come up a lot. I see so many people complaining about ping, which is basically like the strength of one's connection to a server. The lower your ping, the better connection you get.
Here's my deal on ping. People can't control their ping, so the way they fight is NOT "abusive". I've seen a lot of threads, and just general people obsessing over ping. I've had multiple 1v1s with people where I simply got a pretty sweet combo to finish the fight and I get the standard "Dang dude, your ping!". And it seems like nowadays people aren't considered "good" anymore, they're only considered good if they get good ping (which is utterly not true in almost every case). So I'm here to say something. Yes, ping may be decently involved in PvP, and people who live very close to our network's host cities may get an unfair advantage, but PvP does not stand for Ping versus Ping, it stands for Player versus Player, and at the end of the day, it's the player, not the equipment (or in this case, the internet connection). I've been accused of "ping abuse" on coutless occasions, when I average around 90 ping to our US network. This proves that my skill, and that of many others, comes not from ping, but from how we play the game.
Therefore, why don't we all stop caring about ping, and work on the fundamentals of PvP to improve skill, and the next time someone gives you the deep dish combo mambo, recognize their skill and not their internet connection!
Thanks for hearing me out, have a good day
P.S: I'm not saying that ping counts for absolutely nothing, it does in certain, more severe situations. My main point through this is to say that we as a community should go back to appreciating people's PvP skill.
