Stats: Why do people care so much?

Alright, so I am new to survival games, and I'm not all too sure if this is the appropriate section to post this, but after playing a bit something seriously came to my mind: Why do people care so much about stats?

I was in a survival games, and there were these two guys teaming against me, so I asked them to 1v1.
They said no, so I told them teaming is no bueno and it ruins the fun for other players, and they responded by "making fun" of my ratio or whatever that means.

I'm assuming that means my survival games stats, which aren't good at all because I don't really care about improving them.

They ended up killing me, then talked a little smack after I died.

My question is: Why does your ratio or stats matter? It doesn't determine skill, as someone with skill shouldn't need to team every game. It doesn't give you any advantages, and it doesn't quite boost your ego at all either.

I understand people like winning, and people play to win, but with everyone going hard to get a good ratio or whatever, it really turns the game more into a "competition" rather than a way to have fun. I don't like joining games just for people to look down on me for having worse stats than them.

So if stats matter to you, please tell me why. I'm not going to hate on you or anything for having a different view-point as me, but I just want to know what's the big deal with stats.

I believe a lot of people want to win as many games as possible and raise their stats, purely to be recognised, and to be able to show off.

A thing I hate is that when a person that has bad stats kills a really good player, everyone thinks the person hacks as they don't have good stats. Same with a player who has bad stats and gets a good combo on a good player they good player assumes that the other person hacks. "Don't judge a book by its cover!"

You have things important to you, that you like, and to a great amount of people, stats are important:)

Statistics are a way to judge players. They are generally seen as a way to show your skill or PvP abilities. When joining clans, players are always judged based on their statistics. Some people play for the sheer purpose of getting a high rank or a lot of wins, which I find ridiculous because at some point everyone will log into this site for the last time, and then none of that will matter. All those numbers eventually go down the drain, but fun memories will not.

I have to say I agree. Statistics often get in the way of having a good time for many people. The point of video games is not showing off; it is having a good time. People who go around making fun of others because their stats aren't as good are quite frankly sad losers that need to gain some perspective. Having a lot of wins on a minecraft server isn't really something to brag about from an outside perspective. This is why many found the hype that arose because of the "stat reset" so hilarious, while others acted like their life was in danger. I guess it just depends on your perspective.

This problem has spiraled downward since MCSGv2, when maps started getting drastically smaller, games got shorter, and the game lost its survival aspect. Since then, the number of Youtubers, particularly the competitive ones, has increased several fold and trash talk and hackers have greatly increased. I don't see much that can be done about this, other than speculation that nobody probably wants to hear.

My advice to you: don't get caught up in all the stats nonsense. It's all about the memories you make here at MCGamer. Enjoy your stay and welcome to the forums! Your first post was quite good and I wouldn't mind more from you!

Ratios don't matter. They literally mean nothing in MCGamer's book. The wins matter, as for being on the leaderboards. As for other stats, they're just to show off.

As for these people that spit crap into your mouth, ignore them. Think: is what they are saying worth wasting your time arguing with them? Most people on the internet are not even swayed by others' opinions. It's pointless hating that is not worth giving them the satisfaction that they pushed you past your limit.

Also, one tip if want to remain dominant: practice. The more you play, the better you'll be, and eventually, those teams will die to your might.

I honestly really don't think they matter however I think the suggestion for a 1v1 was kind of a bad thing to do on your part since rarely(and I mean really f***ing rarely) will they 1v1. However, I do not think the smack talking from them was necessary for them either, but seems like a large amount of the community does that these days :/

In the end ratios won't matter... I really don't know why people tryhard it so much. I mean you could have a really good ratio but get it from teaming. So it can never truly show how good you are.

People probably don't tryhard ratios as much as you would think...I have tryharded in the past, and probably will again...Some people play to have fun, and just so happen to be very good at the game. So they would think, "If I'm good, how can I prove it? Maybe getting my stats up will increase popularity, etc.." Nowadays you can't even skype with people who are decent without good stats...Ratios matter to many people (including me) because of the amount of time we have spent on these servers. After spending that much time, people want something to show for it.

this post was all over the place ._. I don't really know what point I was trying to make.

A players statistics is a reflection of his skill at the survival games. If you have a lot of wins and a good ratio, you are generally a very good MCSG player. I'm not talking about PvP specifically, I consider myself a pretty good PvP'er, however I am not all that good of an MCSG player.

I don't really know why others care about stats honestly. The only reason I care about them is because I'm a big numbers guy and love statistics, therefore making me meticulous over trying to make mine as good as they can be (you can tell by my signature that it haven't exactly succeeded).
