The Controversy of Gamma.

On this thread, people supporting legalizing gamma give better reasons to not allow it than the people actually against it xD

What if someone uses gamma but says it's a bright texture pack? Unless they go into settings in the evidence,there would be no way to prove them wrong.

Okay, so I've just spoken to an admin, @Dave and he confirmed that changing your gamma is not allowed however using a texture pack with lighter textures is.
So if you want to increase your brightness in MCSG legally just edit your texture pack.

Changing your maximum gamma is modifying your client, and therefore goes under that rule. It's not very complicated. I guess it would be nice for them to specify that this isn't allowed though.

BRIGHTNESS.

Now, in what we just read, having a texture pack that massively increases BRIGHTNESS is allowed.

Why is the texture pack allowed, but Gamma not?
Because changing your Gamma means modifying your client.
What's one of the things not allowed on MCSG?
Modified Clients.
Now, this excludes Optifine, as a super-popular mod. Some people also say that mods that change visual stuff like animations are allowed, such as Better Animations Mod (Or whatever its called.) But Mods are literally "Modifications", right? Modifying your client! That's why ONLY Optifine and maybe a few other mods are allowed.
Optifine is open to the public, correct? Correct! It's on the Minecraft Forums, there's various links to download it, and millions of people have it (Eh, millions is close enough.)
However, not everyone can install it. (Yes, I know there's some sort of automatic installer now. Shush ) Yesterday I had to send a friend my Optifine jar and tell him step-by-step how to create the profile and everything, because he literally didn't know what to do. I had to screenshare on Skype and it took us an hour or so to get it working, simply because he's that retarded. (Yeah, yeah, retarded, w/e. stahp being so picky)
Perhaps there's other reasons that I have yet to hear about that would stop someone from getting Optifine.

Gamma, too, is open to the public. And it's even released before Optifine! (Unless Optifine somehow magically updates before Vanilla Minecraft.) Gamma is included directly in your files (Or so I've heard. I've never actually changed mine manually.) and it is literally available to the public, but again, IF and only IF they can and are willing to go through the trouble of "installing" the gamma thingy (editing the files). That's just like with Optifine!

It only takes a second or two to do yet creating a texture pack to give the exact same effect takes longer and requires a lot more effort.

To download a texture pack you have to look for the folder in your Minecraft folder, I can guarantee that the majority of people who plays Minecraft went on Youtube at some point to learn how to install texture packs, search "How to increase your Minecraft Brightness" not even gamma, I didn't even know there was a gamma option or what it was. I searched how to increase brightness in Minecraft since I have a dim laptop for Minecraft.

Considering the largest Minecraft youtubers, the Yogscast, posted a video on how to do it. It really isn't that difficult to do.

It still requires someone to make the texture pack and by that logic if all texture packs should be allowed then an Xray texture pack should.
Xray texture packs give the exact same effect as an Xray modded client where these texture packs give the exact same effect as the Full Bright mod.
