Why did my ping get bad all of a sudden?

Hey! Im Duck and I want to know something. I recently just moved. I used to get 65 to 85 ping on MC Gamer. I just moved 1 mile away and now I get 110 ping. Earlier I was getting 40-60 ping. Then is suddenly increased. I dont know what happened. Please tell me!

It could be the time of day that you're playing at

There's a number of factors that could be influencing it. It might be just one, or it could be all of the following:

Your Internet provider - did you switch?
The router/modem that you are using
A wired VS wireless connection - are you using the same type?
The Internet plan that your family purchased.

Try to do a Speed Test (http://www.speedtest.net/) and maybe post the results?

It could be because too many people are using the internet at the same time. They could be running a demanding service such as Netflix. I've noticed that that can harm my ping.

Maybe your internet provider is what is causing the problem, try checking your internet connection and see if that is causing the problem, if your internet is fine I honestly don't know what the problem would be, sorry I wish I could help.

Preliminary Questions:

• Since you moved, did you change your ISP (Internet Service Provider) or modem or router?
  • IF YES: Contact them directly and see if there has been any limitations/"slowages" to certain places.
    • IF YES: If possible, try using your other router/modem and see if that does anything.
  • IF NO: Continue Reading
• Since your move, have you started using a VPN/Proxy whilst playing on the MCGamer Network?
  • IF YES: Try disabling it/uninstalling it completely (and restart your PC after successful un-installation) and then connect/check your ping to the MCGamer Network.
  • IF NO: Continue Reading
• Are you using a different wireless connection method? i.e. Ethernet or Wireless (WiFi)
  • IF YES: Try using the same connection method as you did prior to your move. (If you used WiFi, try using WiFi)
  • IF NO: Refer to the below "TL;DR"

TL;DR | If you have the same setup and everything and it basically an exact replica of what you had prior, then contact your ISP. My honest opinion is that you call your ISP regardless and just see what they have to say. They should be able to see what all is happening with your connections and things!

Though in general ping is related to the distance you're connecting to, they are not correlated 1:1. The path that your connection takes can change monthly, daily and even hourly.

You can always try running an MTR for 100 or so iterations to see where the problem is. If you've moved such a short distance it may very well be related to how your ISP is routing connections from your new location, but that's not necessarily something that can be confirmed unless you have a traceroute/MTR from your old location and you can compare them.
