A question about map 1

I found a small island on the side of the map connected with a stone bridge. There is a lever on the side and when I use it I can hear the pistons but I cant seem to find what it does. Anyone could enlighten me?

I believe it's meant to spit out apples on the island, but I think it's glitched right now.
