Apparently, the fishing rod tactic will still work in 1.7, as seen from the results in this video I made.

I've just found out what the mechanics meant, we will still have the fishing rod technique. They mean by the mechanics is the way you catch fish. You can find more loots while fishing. Not only this but instead of waiting for the fishing rod to sink you see water particles approaching the bait. (Evidence go on youtube and search it up)
