Tbqh I don't know what they're used for, really. I know #(ClanName) means like "I'm in (Clan)" and "#(DoThis)2013" or something means, well, "Do ____ 2013" but thats about it xD

A hashtag was originally used for Twitter. Eventually, Facebook and Instagram stole their idea. When you click on a hashtag, every tweet/post/picture that had the hashtag used on it is shown. I still have no idea why they were invented though.
