They will reverse it. 90% of the community don't play single player, and it costs a fortune to keep large Minecraft servers up.

My question is, does this affect things such as ranks which do NOT affect gameplay? For example, MCSG's donor ranks. You're not paying for something that changes your ability to play or win the game. You're paying for "quality of life" features, if that's the correct term.

The old petition was deleted out of the blue, so here is the new one: https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/mojang-change-your-eula.
The old petition was removed because you can't petition a company for something that THEY own, they do what they want. This is literally stated and explained in this video. Please watch this and you will get a clear view from both sides of the story, from both mojang and the community in general.
this helped me understand it.

Sorry, I must of missed that part in the video, I was going by what the person who created the original petition said.

Don't be. It's actually stated in the description along with other links to certain websites to further explain the situation. It was also a coincidence that I stumbled upon them, actually. ;)

It doesn't matter if it's fair or not. I love McGamer community, I spend the most of my time in here xD But in times like this, Mojang have to think about whats best for them. It would make me sad to see this and other communities go down, but in the end.. It's not our decision :( The best thing to do is simply to get the best out of it :3 Hopefully McGamer will still exist for a long time :)<3

Any 'QoL' changes that gives away assets or access to any portion of the game will not be allowed.

I'll be the first to personal say these changes are good, especially in the long run. I can easily picture a few years from now Minecraft still being alive, but the game becoming pay to win on most successful servers. Good servers will still get donations from players who want to actually support the server then to have incentives to do it to stay competent.

If this is introduced it will just kill Minecraft, I know for one I sure won't be playing very much anymore if this happens.

EDIT: Just in case people are unsure, the new EULA has not been officially pushed yet, but at the moment it is just rumours.
Wrong my friend, it's real. Last update of EULA was at December 13th 2013, just nobody knew it because noone had to accept it somewhere. In 1.7.10 they make you accept it or you can't play.

This means that servers like MCSG would be still allowed as long as they dont update to 1.8.

Another possible solution might be virtual currency since it's not part of the game, but you should also be able to obtain it trough playing.

But they won't allow you: selling plugins, selling gfx, youtubers will be still able to earn money with MC videos from youtube but will slowly die out because lack of servers, many servers will go down because noone smart will pay money for server on its own, and many more idiotic things.

Another reason why they are doing this, are Realms I believe (which is something stupid because its vanilla and there are player limitations). I hope that Mojang will find this is stupid and it will harm their community, so they will change the part of EULA that doesn't allow earning money.

Btw AnomalousDyna if you give a rank to someone for donation, it's not donation anymore, it's a purchase ;)

I was just saying that the ELUA has not been updated, not that it has not been the case for a while.
