The king of the Netherlands is head of the state in the books, but they have their own parlement and their own president, so it's practically its own country.

There were plans to make the Dutch Caribbean an autonomous state yet they fell through. Strictly speaking, it is not country - they do not hold a seat at the UN. For example, the Falkland Islands, they have their own parliament, prime minister etc. yet they still have to obey the British crown. It is not an independent country - Aruba has to follow orders from the Netherlands in some circumstances.

True. It's not an independent country in the books, but if a country has its own parlement which can decide almost anything, and is so different to the Netherlands culture, landscape and language wise, then you can pretty much call it independent. As such it should be on here

Let's set things straight: Aruba is not an independent country. If we all went around calling countries almost independent then why are places such as American Samoa, Falkland Islands, Hong Kong, Macau, Tibet not on here? Places must be categorised and sadly Aruba is simply a constituency of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
