Hi there,

You may have seen my thread I posted around last Christmas about getting a gaming pc, and I finished with a $1500 budget build. However, I talked to a computer specialist about my parts and I couldn't resist bumping up to $2k. Well, the method I currently have of making money (not a job) I can't do anymore and I've gotten around $1500 so far. I need to downgrade this build,

To have a budget of UP TO $1532.67 AUD. Thank you c:

I don't know too much about pcs's but i just got mine built for $800 and it can run shaders and all that, so that budget is pretty awesome and should run just about anything :)
I don't know if I can share links here, but there's a page on reddit called reddit.com/r/buildapc and they can help you make those modifications to bring down the spending:)

There's no discernable advantage of an i7 for gaming, unless you need that processing power (for doing light 3D work or CPU-intensive work). A recommended option as a replacement, which is featured in my own system, would be the i5-4670K. Suited for overclocking (as it is the K model) and I guarantee it will satisfy your gaming needs.

As far as the GPU goes, AMD and sub-AMD companies offer a range of comparable cards for less. While doing some part hunting for someone the other day, I found an XFX Radeon R9 280X for $329, which is comparable (if not better) than the 770 that you've listed. Unless you're determined to use nVidia or sub-nVidia for your graphics solution, I would definitely recommend looking around on some reputable PC parts sites (like pccasegear) at some of the AMD/sub-AMD GPUs.

Some argue that using an SSD in a gaming system nowadays is a necessity- while I see the definite advantage of SSDs for significantly quicker load times, I wouldn't go so far as to call it a necessity. If you want to use an SSD in your system, that's your choice, but if you're looking to spare some cash here and there then a smaller SSD (let's say 120GB) or no SSD would be smart.

Let's look at some figures that will determine your total savings with all the aforementioned parts considered;

CPU; -$100-120 (depends where you source the processor from, but generally speaking the price difference between an i7-4770k and an i5-4670k is about $100)
GPU; depending on which option you choose, you could save as much as $100 to as little as $20.
SSD; -$200 if you go with no SSD, -$100 if you go for a smaller disk size.

TL;DR you can save as much as $400 *ish* to as little as $240.

Thanks heaps Dyna, I took it down around 300$ :) Should I get a cheaper fan? The noctua one seems a bit expensive :p

Edit: discussion with dad, removed ssd. Question about fans still stands ;)
