Problems connecting to any server.

I am new to this so please don't laugh at my stupidity. I click direct connect under multiplayer and type in any of the server address (us1.mcsg.in for example). I am getting many different errors ranging from stream ended to something called a "java.netSocketException: software caused connection abor: recv failure". I am very lost. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks *also I'm getting a Connect Error: connect message*
