Between the time you check the server list page, then click back onto minecraft and join that server, people will have already joined. You wouldn't believe how many people try to join our servers at peak times. As someone in this thread already stated, add all servers to your minecraft server list, then click refresh and hey presto, updated list. That will always be quicker than the server status page, we can't change that.
