Sony Vegas Pro 13 - Crashing when I click on .avi files

Hey there,
I'm a decently tech-savvy teenager, but I'm no professional. I've done quite a bit of searching for a solution to this, but nothing has helped so far.

I recently installed Windows 8 on my computer. Everything worked fine, and there were no issues. I was able to record Minecraft videos just fine, and I could edit them without any problems.

A few weeks passed since I last touched Sony Vegas Pro 13, and someone asked for me to put together and edit a video for them that showcased their Minecraft build. So, I went to boot up the old Vegas Pro.

All of my game/screen recorders like FRAPS and Dxtory record in .avi file format. So when I went to open/import my video files, it crashed.

Here's how it happens:
1: I Open Sony Vegas Pro 13
2: Click on Import, or right click and then select Open, or anything that opens file browser. Alternately, I can also right click the file and then select "Open with... Sony Vegas Pro 13"
3: As soon as I click, everything freezes. The name of the file doesn't show up in the "File Name:" text box.
4: After a few seconds, it will say that the program has stopped responding. If I click anywhere, it will say the same message, whether I click on the file browser or the Vegas Pro window.

I've tried waiting it out, I've tried re-installing Vegas, I've tried closing other programs. Nothing is working.

I can open .mp4 files, .mp3, and probably all other sorts of files. But not .avi, which is the only format that I can record in. Due to the fact that I'm trying to record video games, my file sizes can get really big, and my processor isn't fast enough to convert them to other file types in a reasonable amount of time. (3.2 GHz, 2 cores. I don't overclock it.)

I've also been able to view the .avi files in Adobe After Effects and Windows Media Player, so I really don't know what the issue might be.

Specs:
Intel Pentium G3258 3.2GHz Dual-Core Processor
MSI Z87-G41 PC Mate ATX LGA1150 Motherboard
Corsair Vengeance 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1600 Memory
EVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti 2GB Superclocked Video Card
64-bit Windows 8

I've been using this computer on Windows 10 Technical Preview since November 2014, and I've been able to use Vegas Pro just fine the entire time. I recently upgraded my hard drive and switched to Windows 8 since Tech Preview expired. However, even after the switch I was able to edit videos and perform regular actions just fine.

Any and all help or insight is greatly appreciated. If you need any further information or details, don't hesitate to ask.

For future reference, please never say something like this on a legitimate Tech Support thread. You could actually cause someone to lose hundreds of dollars because you're trolling, and then I would be more than happy to walk over to your house, pick up your internet router, and smash it.

-.-'

No but seriously, troll replies aren't funny. This is your warning.

I am going to reserve my reply here and look into it and see what I can do, hopefully I can find out how to fix the problem.

TL;DR
Can't really help, but I highly recommend using Vegas 10 (easiest to crack) or Vegas 12 (smoothest I've tried as I've never tried Vegas 13 myself)

Please post logs. It's hard to diagnose the issue without more information. Vegas logs should be located in the folder:

C:\Users\<NAME>\AppData\Local\Sony\Vegas Pro\13.0

Look through the following .txt files for any errors (or similarly named files):

dx_grovel_x64
dx_video_grovel_x64
FileExplorer
gpu_video_x64

If you don't find any errors there, try going to:

Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Event Viewer > Application Logs
See if there are any logs generated by Vegas. Please report back with any logs found.

Also, did you have any an AVI codec you used on your old installation of Windows? If so, install that. Otherwise, try this.

Try going to options and then holding CTRL + SHIFT and selecting Preferences, then go to Internal and search for "Enable multi-core rendering for playback" and set it to false.

I did that, with no noticeable result. Still unable to import files.

Have you attempted to open the folder containing the files without using vegas and dragging them? I used to have that problem.

Yes, I've tried every regular way of opening the files into Vegas.
