eing properly equipped is very important if you're entering into organized PvP, or even simply being prepared for unexpected attacks. All this is guaranteed to kill monsters and players if applied effectively.
Offensive[edit | edit source]
Sword
Use this as a melee primary weapon. The range of a sword is approximately 2.5 blocks, so keep a ranged weapon to hit opponents beyond the sword's reach.
Bow
This is the primary ranged weapon available. It is powerful, and should used in tandem with a sword to pressure opponents at any distance.
TNT
TNT can be useful in PvP, though it will not work most of the time or even at all. Most all PvP servers disallow the use of TNT at spawn because it can be used for griefing. Some servers disable it entirely. Players with or without speed potions can outrun TNT, so it is not recommended.
Flint and steel
Similar to TNT, Fire and Flint and Steel is usually always disabled in server spawns or disallowed to avoid griefing. A lot of times outside of spawns Flint and Steel can be useful for catching your opponents on fire. Most all of the time players will have enchantments that reduce fire damage or even fire resistance potions, but it still obstructs their view!
Fishing rod
This deals no damage to players, but it does deal a small amount of knockback to the player. This unexpected diversion may allow you to hit them, and you have a good chance of getting a 2-3 hit combo on your enemy. It's a very good tactic for breaking their armor or annoying them in general if you're saving your arrows.
Axe
Axes do 1 less damage than a sword, but on many servers using plugins like McMMO, Axes can have awesome abilities like extra armor damage and extra base damage. If you are at your house and don't have a sword, an axe is the second best weapon.
Defensive[edit | edit source]
Armor
Armor allows you to absorb some of the damage dealt to you. Armor is vtal for PvP and you will die in seconds without it. If you are PvPing and you don't have armor then I don't know what you are even doing...
Beacon
While useful, it is only good if you are sure you will have an advantage. Remember that they will be affected as well! A good example use of beacons is to give Strength II to any players within the effect region, while you don't have them and other players do, to make you relatively stronger because your opponents would "normally" have strength potions as well.
Food
Always make sure to have full food during a fight! If your food goes below 9 bars,you will not regenerate health, and if your food gets below 3 bars, you cannot sprint. Golden apples are best because they heal you at the same time, but any other food works.
Milk
Milk eradicates all status effects, buffs or debuffs. Milk can get rid of weakness and poison but will also remove your golden apple effects!

Potions
Potions can do a variety of effects, all of which can be used in PvP.
Ender pearls
When thrown, it teleports the user to the place it lands. Useful for getting over walls. Do note that using ender pearls can inflict damage on you. You can also damage opponents by hitting them with an enderpearl, though it is not recommended for damage purposes. You can hit someone with a pearl if they are escaping.
Water bucket
Water slows movement, allowing for a quick escape. It also puts out fires. Do be warned that blocks, including water and lava, can usually not be placed at server spawns.
Lava bucket
Lava is the ultimate barricade. You can use lava to greatly slow your enemies and damage them a lot if they don't have potions or great enchants. Do be warned that blocks, including water and lava, can usually not br placed at server spawns.
Snowballs or eggs
While it deals no damage to a player (excluding the egg), it has a high rate of fire, allowing you to knock people off cliffs. They only damage other players if there is a plugin for the server that gives the ability of harm for these. Most players will not expect an egg to be used as a weapon, and therefore it can be very effective and surprising. It damages armor, making it a mass-producible armor killer.
