Chapter 12:

Perspective of FLAMEdex | Let the Hunger Games, BEGIN

I woke up from my long sleep by the sound of some weird instrument from outside. With a groan I slouched from bed to change my clothes and headed outside my room looking for where the noise was coming from, it started to sound like trumpets or something. I looked out the balcony and saw Peacekeepers blowing trumpets on the top of a building, what the hell were they doing up there.

Apparently I wasn’t the only one that awoke from this as my mentor, Jack, came out of his room and out onto the balcony. “Why are they playing trumpets at this time, and on top of that building” I asked Jack curiously and he chuckled “Every tribute asks the same thing, they blow those trumpets for the day the Hunger Games start every year, it’s like a routine they have”

It felt like I got to the Capitol only yesterday, the time flew fast. I left back to my room and stared at the ceiling thinking about what I’ll be doing in the games, I volunteered for a reason. I really would like to get an axe from the cornucopia straight away, maybe even a backpack too with some possible food and water supplies, I wasn’t sure, I didn’t want to be one of the ones that died in the bloodbath.

The trumpets kept playing outside and I heard Jeff groan as he got out of his room, and came to my door “Dude, shut the noise off will you” I laughed a little “It’s not me, they do this the first day of the Hunger Games” his eyes suddenly widened. “Today is the day the games start?” he ran to his room. I jumped from my bed and decided to make breakfast, I needed to eat, a lot.

I was joined by Jeff and Jack and we talked while eating for several hours until it was time for us to part. We said our goodbyes and were escorted to a small room where each tribute sat in a designated seat. Jeff and I sat down as a women walked to each of us with a really big injection needle. “Arm?” the women was waiting to inject the shot into my hand, I hesitated “It’s your tracker” I slowly brought my arm forward and I felt a short but painful shot.

I rubbed my arm furiously to get the stinging feeling away from my arm. The women finished and left the room, and everyone was escorted to their own rooms, my stylist, Michael, was waiting for me. “Ah Matto, long time no see” we shook hands “You will be entering this pod in less than a minute, the pod will bring you into the arena and when the countdown reaches zero the game begins” I nodded and slowly walked into the pod, I noticed I was shaking.

“I believe you’ll do good, Matto, make sure to play it strategic, let the tributes kill each other off first” he waved me goodbye as my pod closed and ever so slowly brought me up to the arena. I waved bye back to Michael until I couldn’t see him anymore and a violent breeze hit me, I reached the area. I looked around and saw all the tributes standing on their own pedestals, surrounding the cornucopia in the middle.

I saw an Axe leaning on a backpack straight in front of me, perfect, I decided I was going to rush for that. “Hehe” the tribute to my left was staring me with deadly eyes, I think he was also going for what I wanted. I stopped shaking and calmed down as the countdown began, the big number 30 was lit up at the top of the cornucopia. I looked at all of the tributes closely, most were pointing at the cornucopia ready to rush in and some were prepared to run into the forest.

“15, 14, 13…” my heart started to pound as the timer started heading to zero. I felt motivation rush into me as memories I had flashed before me. I shook myself of any fear I had and got into my running-ready position, I was going to get that axe and backpack. “5, 4, 3, 2, 1…” I ran.

That was the end of today's chapter!
Look out for the next one, new chapter out every Monday, Wednesday, Friday!
