There's already a lot of these, but I thought I'd make one just to show how I play.
Although most people will know these I thought it might help out some newer players.

1. Know your limits - If someone has better items or you know they're a good player, consider taking them on.

2. Use items - A bow, fishing rod and flint and steel especially. Bows do a lot of damage, so they can be deadly when in a small area (or anywhere if you're good). Fishing rods are for hitting people away, boosting team mates or knocking someone back to get a few extra hits in. Flint and steel, what I consider one of the most annoying items in the game. If you get lit when chasing someone, you should back off, the fire stops your sprint, deals damage over time and impairs your vision. I've been turned on and killed many times after being lit (stupid mistakes by me).

3. Jump a lot - sprint jumping and jumping when fighting. If you are in a fight, jump around them, you will get more crits and they will have a harder time hitting you.

4. There's a difference between running and a "tactical retreat" - running forever, while sometimes lengthening you're life, won't get you a win. I run when I need to heal, meet a team mate, get into a better position or even light someone on fire

5. You need to fight people - if you just look for chests all game then the following will happen; other people will get some basic items and go after others, getting loot to add to their own will enable them to get better items, so you won't have a chance. I often see that the people in the death match, unless they're a team, have nothing above assorted bits of armour and a stone or maybe iron sword.

These are some of my basic tips on how I play, thanks for reading and I hope it helps you out. :) :D
