ok well in a 48 team bracket, after first round it goes to 24, then 12, then 6, then 3. 3 is the last number where it can't be even, so you get a 4th team for a wild card spot. in order to pick that wild card spot, you have 2 teams from the 3rd round (6 teams left) and let them battle it out
