I started mcsg before I read the books and watched the movie. I don't think it really makes a difference in how you play as long as you know the concept of the game.

no, the hunger games storyline made it so katniss, the underdog won, while in reality the superior player would always win in MCSG.

Katniss was far from being the underdog... in fact she is like say, a superior player (skilled with a bow, knowing how to hunt and maneuver) taking on teams (the careers).

As for the movie, it's decent but I preferred the book over it. The second book was excellent and amazing, but I believe they'll lift the game with the second movie this time. The third book detailed the storyline, and had a unique twisted ending but was not written very well; the movie in said case would most likely be a lot better.
