I have to say the 1.7 update is much smoother than its predecessors, but I've noticed a bit of a problem: it significantly heats up my machine (I touched the vent and I got scorched!). I am hoping that the release of Optifine for 1.7 will solve this issue.

Minecraft actually takes a lot of CPU memory ;)
Oh I know. It really does and optifine should help. I just find that kind of ironic. I should have elaborated more in my post. :p

IKR ._. It is weird that Minecraft, a blocky game, takes a lot of memory :p

I'm actually playing a survival on 1.7 while installing OS X Mavericks, the new Apple software, on my computer. Keep this up and my processor will be cooked well-done by 10:00.

Just to clarify, it has not overheated yet, but if I had continued playing (not even on full screen, normal sized window) it would have.

As a suggestion to prevent overheating and damage to your computer, I would set a timer the next time you play Minecraft 1.7 and go until you get a warning or feel uncomfortable playing, and then use that as the amount of time you should play. I would also recommend monitoring temperature, getting help from the internet, even getting Mojang involved to see how to eliminate the issue or prevent it.

Same here, I play on a MacBook Pro and my legs insanely hot.
