Like you said in the story, not only did the crew members fight eachother but something else too. I would build something relevant to that like an alien base that the crew never knew about. Eg, humans can only see the surface of Mars so nobody knows about what is in Mars. (This may be confusing) So maybe have this like alien base underground giving players something to explore something unexpected and new while at the same time fighting! I also have a good name: "The Red Giant". Good Luck!

Haha, I already added that.
If you find the underground area, it explains how they melted the ice, the volcano erupting, and where they mine quartz.

And The Red Giant sounds ok, but got any other ideas?
