The holiday was formed because of the two dissenting northern and southern holidays, but celebrate all of the fallen soldiers, medics, and generals from all wars.

Most modern day wars are celebrated through Veterans Day, including Vietnam, Iraq, and Korea. When the generation of the war passes, the focus goes towards Memorial Day, but Veterans Day still celebrates those who may have survived the war.

Veterans Day has parades and such, Memorial Day isn't as big, with only some memorials and services. Both still national holidays.

Today is when our band participated in the memorial day parade for our town, even though it was hot and tiring, and by the end everybody just wanted to go home, it was good to honor our veterans.
