This wouldn't be just MCSG that you'd have issues with, it'd be anything on the other side of the United States. If you are on the west coast, it'd be pretty much all of Europe/Australia you'd have issues connecting to.
tl;dr: one of the major US internet backbones took a crap in one of the most utilized network points.
