Did you know about the use of 'graphics packs' and what do you think of the use of them

I find this so true -_-
My friends do this and use his graphics... I am aware that its a paid graphics pack but my friends just pass it around, (not naming names) and I honestly don't like it, I just fly under the radar making my own graphics and collating different images off the internet and making my own to form a.... Mutated-Scraps-Graphics pack :p If you look at my shop thread I don't use Adams graphics... I also draw reasonably good quality stuff and am a fan of fin XD but there's no way in hell I would call my stuff a copy or re-imitation of his stuff :p. Not trying to put myself in the spotlight, just trying to say... I feel your pain.

MCGamer needs a duckluv321 pack. >_>

Or just everyone going out and drawing their own things. I've perused a few of the art shops because my current Youtube channel sucks basketballs. For those of us without Photoshop (or only Paint which anything I "draw" in looks like squiggles and blobs) it is an absolute pain to find a good graphics person to befriend. This thread's appreciated as I've even tried to reply to some threads to get an actually well-shadered custom skin that looks like me IRL. Now I know why I never got a reply: they were probably too scared to actually accept complicated requests lest this AdamPack fail them. :p

EDIT: Disregard any allusion I made to Duckluv being a fem MCSG Bob Ross on Youtube. I didn't know she had a channel. Don't grill me. :/

I never knew about this, thanks for sharing that, this should be pinned in my opinion as more people need to know about it and need to know how to be an original artist.

Okay, so SharkyCraft (a pretty good artist) recently released a website where people could ask for commissions...and you thought people's prices here were expensive:
http://frederikjespersen3.wix.com/sharkyartz
Most importantly, his rendered section. As mentionned earlier, rendering skins and fancy text doesn't really take very long...well he's selling RENDERED thumbnails for 20 dollars and RENDERED banners for 30 dollars. This just goes to show how much deception there really is in this business, and how these artists are making huge profits utilizing short-cuts...

I know as I can relate to this as I used to not use graphics packs, however then a friend of mine sent me the AdamKGraphics pack and naturally, I started using it. This post however, has made me rethink using it. When I look back, it doesn't feel as impressive using a GFX pack (I do make my own elements too, though :p).

The main problem is, though, that most people like the elements from the GFX packs. I'd say 75% of the requests I get from people are asking for the "triangle particles" or the "screen overlay" so you don't really have a choice unless you want to change their request.

The one thing I have a huge issue with is the minecraft backgrounds from the AdamK pack. I don't see how hard it is to take the photo yourself inside of Minecraft. Most people just drag'n'drop 'em out of the pack. Pretty much every piece of my work has the photo taken by myself unless it's literally physically impossible to get it (background of Destiny's Shiver, for example).

Well, that's my opinion on this, thanks for sharing this Ducky. ;)

That happens with me a lot as well. The customer will give a reference and ask for something similar to the styles used in the graphics pack, which kind of leaves you with no other options :p

That's insane. I certainly hope nobody pays that much for so you can get more than five times cheaper somewhere else.

The rendered stuff is okay, but his drawn stuff is a lot nicer. It's a bit more pricy but definitely has a higher value.

The drawn stuff is very nice. Still pricey, but certainly much more worth it, like you said. I've seen a lot better thumbnails for a lot cheaper- the thumbnails listed are very basic. The banner is nice but $30 is absolutely ridiculous.
