I want the rodding to be entirely removed from any sort of combat. The fishing rod has no place with an entity in the game. For a short time, either Mojang or MC Gamer actually removed the function, but I don't remember which it was. I realize that this is a game, but it also emulates real life in a sense. If you were to snag someone with a fishing hook, you would probably just stick into their skin much like how you would see on a sitcom. It would not knock you back. It is already an annoying thing to deal with. I never used the technique, because I find it cheap quite frankly. It seems to be on par with block hitting.
I completely agree. The fishing rod is unrealistic and we should remove it from the game. It's completely ridiculous that they would add anything to the game that does not emulate real life. Not only should the developers remove the fishing rod, but I also feel that the current system of "blocks" is unrealistic - I very rarely see cubic areas of dirt and grass in real life, and so those should be removed as well. Lastly, where is the realism with the swords? I'd always imagined that if I hit someone with a sword, some blood or something would come out of them, and yet nothing seems to happen on minecraft. I'm not sure if this is a glitch or not but I'm certainly going to address it.

There isn't a large skill factor. Not one that trumps over any sword technique, anyway.

If they mess up PvP our gamemode is literally dead. Hopefully we can just contine to run on 1.8 if they do mess it up too bad c:

Not to worry

Yeah, exactly what I was thinking, even though if they made new weapons and stuff for kids like that, MCSG would have to upgrade as the majority of its users are not so old, although there's actually a large chance of it sticking to 1.8 in my opinion, especially if influential youtubers would play it (Like Huahwi, for example), but at that point 1.7 would be even better :p

I'd have to disagree entirely. I would say that anyone could just rod spam someone and then sword spam them. It's taking advantage of a delay and it's cheap. There isn't a large skill factor. Not one that trumps over any sword technique, anyway. You could easily devise a way to counter with your own sword. And then you have your bow that could accomplish all things you've said a rod can, while doing damage. I don't condone arrow spam, but at least it's progressive and requires more accuracy and aim than a rod does. A rod really doesn't need skill when there is no penalty factor for missing. You aren't taking a risk when using a fishing rod, however you have a slight cool down with your melee weapon and limited uses with bow and flint and steel.
Ryan you are my new favorite person.

question? what happens when you are fighting someone who has 100+ better ping than you and you cant make up for his further hits with other secondaries. IMO thats where a rod is usefull

Before the Fishing Rod technique came into play, people learned to deal with this. There is no reason we can't go back to the way it used to be.

You haven't actually made a valid argument against the fishing rod

Your two points so far have been:
-"It takes no skill" which is just downright not true.
-"Why can't we just make it go back to the way it used to be", when people started using the rod tactic less than 6 months after MCSG came out.

The rod adds so much to the game. There was a time when it was removed effectively from the game on hive since you couldn't quick switch between items and begin hitting people, and everyone hated it - a lot of people moved over to MCSG until it was changed back. It took a huge amount of skill out of the game and made it more ping-based.

Honestly, I'm fairly sure the only reason you want the rod taken out of the game is because you're not that great with it yourself and don't really understand it. I say that because no-one I know that actually uses the rod at all thinks it's a bad thing.
