To be perfectly honest, people are going to hate on this. But I really wish they removed that fishing rods knocked you back.
This statement seems all wrong to me. The reasoning behind this post is more than likely because you don't know what you're doing with a rod. Think of all the time players have spent learning tactics with a rod all to be destroyed because some people don't like it? Instead of trying to get rid of it, learn how to use it.

Narwhal, It is an opinion. Some people like the fishing rod, and others do not.

People spent hours practicing with a sword, and then when someone introduces the idea of the fishing rod all that skill is diminished or put on the back burner, because I can aim at you and right click.

The rod was never introduced. It has always been there. Yeah, it wasn't used at one stage but it has always been available to use. It can't be compared to a new alien type weapon that could destroy all usage of the rod.

I want the rodding to be entirely removed from any sort of combat. The fishing rod has no place with an entity in the game. For a short time, either Mojang or MC Gamer actually removed the function, but I don't remember which it was. I realize that this is a game, but it also emulates real life in a sense. If you were to snag someone with a fishing hook, you would probably just stick into their skin much like how you would see on a sitcom. It would not knock you back. It is already an annoying thing to deal with. I never used the technique, because I find it cheap quite frankly. It seems to be on par with block hitting.

but, it adds a skill to the game, anyone can run around left clicking a sword dealing damage. Sure they can strafe and blockhit him and use other sword tactics but with a rod it adds a "precision" and skill to the game. You can time a rod when someone jumps so that you get a hit and they dont, you can rod spam until you can combo them, you can use it to push players away from you. It adds a "skill" to the game in my opinion. My opinion just stating it.

I'd have to disagree entirely. I would say that anyone could just rod spam someone and then sword spam them. It's taking advantage of a delay and it's cheap. There isn't a large skill factor. Not one that trumps over any sword technique, anyway. You could easily devise a way to counter with your own sword. And then you have your bow that could accomplish all things you've said a rod can, while doing damage. I don't condone arrow spam, but at least it's progressive and requires more accuracy and aim than a rod does. A rod really doesn't need skill when there is no penalty factor for missing. You aren't taking a risk when using a fishing rod, however you have a slight cool down with your melee weapon and limited uses with bow and flint and steel.

if there's no skill, how about we have a fight with rods and see who wins! ^_^
