That's really wrong dude
Someone who has 10 ms and has the same skill level as someone who has 70-90 ms will ALWAYS land the hits first and do the insane combos, as hits register faster.
But when you have high ping and you get rodded back, it's delayed so you don't get affected a lot.

Pinger is when someone's bad and they have a really good ping.
Just that, nothing else.

It is a big difference when you get the first hit by your ping, 10Ping vs 120Ping who would win? Both same skill but one has the advantage over the connection.

Ping affects any game. It is the time it takes for packets to send and arrive. Ping, Pong.

I've played with high ping in loads of games and low ping is such a relief

With high ping you are advantaged as your knockback is delayed thus your opponents rod will be very inaffective. With low ping you have an incredible advantage against opponents with 50-60+ ping than you. Ping does affect the game.
Unless you're significantly better than the player and play smart.

Then you win no matter what your Ping is.

Unless you have over 175 ping, then things become a bit screwy and you really have to know how to pull things off :p

If your ping is above 130 or so you'll ghost... makes a huge difference bud
Also users with higher ping will get the "stone sword glitch" much more than users with good ping.
Finally rodding and bow delay do effect pvp..., meaning that ping does indeed make a difference in combat.
No ur wrong

bad ping in itself doesn't cause ghosting, just players with bad ping often have unstable connection which is the cause of ghosting. just because your packets take a longer time to reach the server doesn't necessarily mean they ever stop sending altogether (which is what happens when you ghost)

also i completely agree with the OP. with bad ping you can even throw your opponent off and get hits that you otherwise wouldn't because the knockback dealt on you takes longer to register. the bow delays etc kind of sucks but the fact that half of rasclarts got called cheaters in us clan wars goes to show bad ping really isn't as bad as some people like to make out.

i find it harder to do consistently well playing with high ping but someone with 50ms putting their loss to someone with 20ms down to ping is just a dumb excuse

Ping is a pain. Under the logic provided in the opening statements of this article, I, 1200ms on AU should have an equal chance against someone with 5ms. I can tell you now... No. I know this is an extreme example but for a theory to be correct it must cater to every hypothesis, and every out come ;p

Me and a buddy actually tested out ping once on my server, to see the difference it makes in a sword fight.

Again, this was on MY SEVER.

So what we did, we both created an auto click macro with the same exact click speed, held on that macro and ran straight at eachother. The difference was HUGE to be honest. Just running straight at eachother, no strafing or going for crits, I OWNED HIM. My ping to the server was next to 0, his was about 60 I believe. I automatically got the first hit every single time, knocked him back and he couldn't tough me most times.

So we tried it again, he played with the same macro, I changed mine to make the click speed slower. Same results. He was able to get a few more hits on me, but all in all, he still got destroyed.

I'm not saying that you need to have great ping to be good at this game, I'm just saying it does help. Almost all of the "great" pvper this server has seen are people with great ping. You of course have to have skill to play. You can have great ping and still suck at pvp. With the ping tho, you're hits have no delay, no rod/bow delay. There are ways to out play someone with great ping, but it is very hard to win a straight up sword fight against them.

i don't think running at each other head on is at all indicative of the effect on actual fights

but it is a great way to show exactly how much a difference ping can make. With strafing, it's hard to get an accurate reading on it, because people strafe better than others. Running straight at eachother leaves no room for any kind of inaccuracy. If we could get 2 people to strafe EXACTLY the same, the results would be the same as the straight forward test.

That's why I said skill can counter ping if you know what you are doing.

Ping does affect gameplay. Lower ping is an advantage to a degree, though your experience will impact how you play a lot more. Only ping higher than 160-180 affects your gameplay negatively, in my experience at least. I'd say the 120-140 ms range is okay, while 80 and lower is ideal.

Oh and smiles because they're new, or I'm late.
