I've never particularly liked the friend rank, mainly because it's almost misleading.

One of it's purposes is to be given to those friends of administration, which makes sense, but when you have like 50 retired mods running around with a "friend" rank when they were just working for administration, it kind of spoils the meaning of the rank.

They should give the retired ones a separate rank, and those friends with the staff should be kept Friend if you want my take on it.

Correct me if I am wrong, but users are promised no payment/reward when applying for mod. I don't deny the fact that mods deserve recognition; I just don't think this many people should be upset that the rank is being taken from them. The rank isn't a right, but a privilege. If the administration doesn't think ex-mods should have the rank anymore, there should be no problem. Also, I think Platinum donor is a more than generous reward for your time as mod.

The other side of that is it isn't the rank ex-mods want, its the special recognition. This ties into my previous statement though: you were promised nothing when applying for mod. If you wanted to continue to have the special recognition, don't resign. If you chose to resign, then not having the special recognition shouldn't be a problem. You should have been mod to help MCSG, not because you wanted to stand out. Complaining about no longer having special recognition only makes you seem selfish and reveals that your intentions were to stand out not to help MCSG.

My favorite line from The Incredibles (movie): "If everyone is super, no one is." It applies nicely, if all the mods get friend rank along with the administration's close friends, what does the "friend" in friend rank really mean? (Basically: "If everyone is a friend, no one is." Like the movie quote.)

Now I realize I could just be rambling on about nothing and making a fool of myself because I am misunderstanding this whole issue. If not, listen to my arguments, I think they might be able to help.

They didn't actually get rid of it, they just temporarily took it from everyone and are debating pretty much everything about it.

I'm sure that there was a valid reason as to why the friend rank got removed. Surely an update will be given to either the public, or those concerned. Col Star made a comment on the issue on his wall. :)

They should just make a retiree rank, and for close friends of staff (they should limit it to Sr.Staff) they get the friend rank

I agree and respect most people's opinions on this thread. However I gotta say I loved friend rank and it's a shame they took it away. I really do think they should reward the retired mods in a different way if not adding the friend rank back. However if they do at it back I think it should be RARE to get friend rank and there should be a kind of document to go threw the friend process e.g: must be a mod for over 10 months or something like that. That way they can increase the amount of friends if that's the problem.

I believe it was perfectly ok that it was removed, as it is nearly identical to the VIP rank.

But on the other hand, I believe everyone who owned the Friend rank at the time of removal, should get VIP. It just seems unfair that Ex-Staff do not receive some form of prize for their time Moderating MCSG.

It sounds like all Ex-Staff will get either VIP or Platinum unless they come to a new conclusion. For now, only the friends that were friends of the Sr. Staff have received VIP.

I am more concerned about everyone receiving VIP and it becomes less of a reward, but then again I don't know what the standard will be for getting it for being Ex-Staff.
