You could have it so that the water is "electrified" and you cant swim in it or you get zapped or lose hearts

My idea is that when you kill a tribute, a large hovercraft will hover over the area that you killed the tribute, and you have to run away from the hovercraft as it will be shooting fire charges at the player. Once the player gets out of range, the player will get Slowness for 10 seconds and food poisoning for 15 seconds.
They're looking for ideas to replace disasters in specific areas, not suggestions to improve the entire map ;)

Couple more ideas
  • An area in which 75% of the food you eat gives you poison for 5 seconds and has the same saturation as something like fish or melon (this includes golden apples).
  • An area in which all plant life (tall grass, flowers, saplings etc.) gives you a negative potion effect when stepped on. Always a negative effect, but varying from slowness to poison.
  • An area in which fire works are shot into the air every 20 seconds, giving away your location to all those around. The damaging part (if possible), is that once the fireworks are shot upwards, they fall back down, similar to arrows, in an area around where the tribute is standing. Damage should be something like 4-6 hearts.

My disaster idea is a circle of arrows just constantly raining down around you and the only way to not take damage is hiding under the trees. You could also try to make it so a certain item can deflect the arrows when you hold it/wear it.

Good idea but how would this not cause lag? Is it only in a certain area?

Skeletons on top of bats, so the skeletons can just stay in one part of the sector and bow people that are inside of the sector.

I have some more ideas.
- Something to do with chests like whenever you open a chest it likes has a TNT effect so you take damage. When you are in the sector it doesn't tell you that this disaster if happening they will just have to find out when they open a chest. Anything to deal with something happening when you open a chest would be pretty cool.
- When someone is standing still for more than 3 seconds they get caught on fire. This should do the same damage as a regular flint and steel.
- Whenever you walk under a tree the leaves fall down and you take half a heart of damage until you can manage to break the leaves that fell on top of you that are now surrounding your body.
- Angry wolfs randomly spawn and they find the closest player to them and attack them. Most likely the only way they could survive is kill the wolves.
- Whenever you walk the block you stand on becomes soul sand or makes you slow like you are on soul sand.
- Make it really foggy, so that if it was like your chunks on 2 which is the lowest setting. This would make people more cautious.
- When this disaster starts if measures your armor rating and the better armor you have the longer you have slowness. This makes the gameplay harder and this is realistic.
- Whenever you take any type of fall damage even if it doesn't do any damage, you automatically get slowness. The more fall damage, the longer the slowness.
- You get sucked into a chosen area along with the other players in the same sector, so if someone is hiding or the game is taking to long this would be good. It would also be cool to fight a bunch of people or you could be the only one if you are lucky. It would also be good because if someone doesn't read the chat or they made their chat disappear they will be scared because they won't know what is happening.
- Make all the players name tags invisible, so you can sneak up on people and they can sneak up on you. This would make you more cautious, make the game more fun, and make you jump if someone comes out of nowhere.
- You know how when you kill someone lighting goes off. Well whenever you kill someone you should get struck by it after you kill a player so if your low you will die too. You will have to be more cautious about your health when you fight someone.

A disaster area in which everything is mixed up a ton.
All the textures will change, lava becomes water, leaves become sand chests become tier 2s stuff like that.

Have Fog appear that causes poison and nausea when you are in it, put Blindness on everyone for however long seems logical, and have the arena shrink over time maybe?
