Specific Request: Chronic Fishing Rod Users

For those of you who find yourselves constantly using the fishing rod for various reasons, I'd like to ask some questions.
First off, how do you use the fishing rod?
Secondly, do you actually think you are gaining a benefit from using the fishing rod? If so, how?
Did you start using it on your own accord or did you learn from someone else?

I only use it when chasing someone trying to break there sprint. This can be really usefull to prevent long chases. It's not really something to be learned, I just looked at a few other people doing it!

I often use it to boost an opponent towards an obstacle to help catch them and kill them, i often use it in fights as i have a fairly high ms to au and don't get very good hits and the fishing rod helps me maximise what damage i can do. I also occasionally use it to acquire XP but not often as i have a very short attention span. Gradually over time i acquired the skill to use the rod decently well through watching videos.

I use it to catch fish when I'm low kn food and for xp on maps like avaricia that I know the enchantment table on

Offensive:
- Hitting them right before we engage in sword combat for a possible combo and a sure first hit.
- Spamming while chasing them to confuse them.
- Hitting them into walls and tripping them on blocks when chasing.
- Boosting friends.

Defensive:
- Hitting them away from me.

I actually learnt how to use the Fishing rod offensively by myself, I didn't see anybody do it, I just thought it was a good tactic.

1) moreso mobility reasons than PvP reasons. I use it to disengage a fight more than I use it to engage.

2) Yes, there is an advantage gained.

1. I use it in three main ways:
a) As Krafty said, to try to land the first hit when I'm running at my opponent by knocking them back.
b) If I find I'm losing a sword fight and need to run, I switch to my rod to knock my opponent back quickly before turning to run. It gets a little extra ground between me and my opponent and is reaaally helpful.
c) Standard rodspamming when chasing people
2. Definitely- Maybe not as much as I'd like to think but I'm far more likely to win a game if I have a rod.
3. I was taught by jonnysurvives who is pretty much my PvP tutor.

Started using it in an attempt to break people's sprint, eventually went on to using it when people were charging at me. I had heard rumors of it which is why I started using it, I don't recall seeing anyone using the tactic effectively so I was self-taught.

I use it to fish for op items or pushing people into trees to break there sprint, I then hit them with sharp sticks. >:3

I don't use the fishing rod tactic much, i just go berserk, that's probably why i lose a lot. I use fishing rod when I'm in tight areas to get a quick hit, and run away instantly.

I think that if I could aim better my fishing rod would be more effective. It usually makes a difference in my PvP all around, but not when I am doing poorly. It has saved my life countless times mostly in water battles.
