I don't care if people use rendering programs for their art, as long as they say what program they used and if they charge it for free. Thanks for letting us know about this, now I will be more careful when I ask for art.

Its not really the programs, its more what they use inside the programs.... like Adam K's graphics pack :3

Okay, so SharkyCraft (a pretty good artist) recently released a website where people could ask for commissions...and you thought people's prices here were expensive:
http://frederikjespersen3.wix.com/sharkyartz
Most importantly, his rendered section. As mentionned earlier, rendering skins and fancy text doesn't really take very long...well he's selling RENDERED thumbnails for 20 dollars and RENDERED banners for 30 dollars. This just goes to show how much deception there really is in this business, and how these artists are making huge profits utilizing short-cuts...
What the hell, $30 for a simple avatar and $50 for a banner? All his stuff is way too overpriced.
God, I know people may need some money but in my opinion no simple piece of art should ever cost more than $5.
How can people charge for renders in general- this is atrocious.

I've been looking around deviantart a lot lately, and I have seen some absolutely amazing art for ridiculously cheap prices. You can get an amazing fully colored avatar for $10. That's 1/5 of what he's charging for a banner with some text that takes no more than 10 minutes to make, and a few rendered characters.

I agree with you completely- it's ridiculous.

Selling renders in general, I think is acceptable, as long as everything in the render you made yourself, or at least the majority. Someone should never sell something they simply drag-and-dropped for for then $2, and quite frankly, it should be free. Going back to deviantart, I've seen amazing art made completely by hand that took hours, sold for less than some people sell rendered avatars for, and it's pretty crazy.

As a graphics designer - I can 100% agree with this WHOLE post. Even though I do have the AdamK Graphics pack and use it, I don't over do it. What I mean by that, is all people do is add a simple render, text and load the thing up with effects.

For me, I try to make my own style. My intent is to make things where people are able to easily recognize I made it, I want to create my own style of GFX that people can look up to.

As you said, originality is hard to come across. People try to find the 'easy way out' while still being credited for their work.

Yes, they did do it themselves and they did do the work, but they didn't create the style of the work.

Those are my 2 cents.

Makes me proud to say I'm one of the legit artists and I spend time making my renders using photoshop effects.
(I don't care that my drawn avatars are similar to finsgraphics! :p)

Damn, now the only art threads I trust that are legit are the ones made from duckluv...
